Haynes International produces alloys that enable the successful use of many power generation technologies. Our portfolio of HAYNES® high-temperature alloys are designed to resist oxidation, sulfidation, carburization and to cover a broad variety of challenging environments.
The largest power generation applications focus on Industrial Gas Turbines. Because of their combination of high-temperature strength, resistance to oxidation, formability, and weldability, HAYNES® alloys are found in burners and injectors, combustion liners, transitions ducts, and exhaust components. These same characteristics make these alloys attractive in Advanced Ultrasupercritical Steam, Supercritical CO2, Sterling Engines, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plants, fuel cells, and other unique power generation methods.
In thousands of industrial gas turbines all over the world, HAYNES® and HASTELLOY® alloys are quietly and reliably working to provide electrical power, transportation and fluid/gas transmission that keep the global economy running. From large frame engines providing hundreds of megawatts of power to mechanical compressors for pipelines to recuperated microturbines supplying combined heat and power, gas turbine combustion systems need materials with the high strengths needed to control shape at high temperatures for thousands of hours. HASTELLOY® X, HAYNES® 625 and HR-120® alloys
On nearly every continent on the global, A-USC programs have been initiated to find a way to drastically enhance the efficiency of coal-fired power and reduce emissions. All programs seek to increase temperatures and pressures to achieve these goals. In the U.S., a consortium of OEM’s, National Labs, and other industrial organizations have been looking at conditions of 1400°F (760°C) and 36.2MPa (5250 psi) where high-temperature nickel alloys will be necessary. For these programs, HAYNES® 282® alloys is under consideration as one of the highest creep strength and fabricable materials available.
Like A-USC steam, Supercritical CO2 offers higher power densities and a way to drastically enhance the efficiency with reduced emissions. Operating at 1292°F (700°C), HAYNES® 282® alloys is attractive as one of the highest creep strength and fabricable materials available.
Renewable energy technologies like concentrated solar power offer zero net emissions in operation, and with thermal energy storage via molten salts, can operate for extended hours after sunset. However, the high temperatures and thermally cycling present unique challenges for the high temperature receivers. HAYNES® alloys, like 230® alloy, provide excellent creep strength and oxidation/corrosion resistance necessary to meet the targeted service life for the tubular products.
HAYNES® 25 alloy
HAYNES® 25 alloy offers excellent strength, good oxidation resistance to 1800°F (980°C), and relatively good resistance to wear and galling. Used in gas turbine parts.
HAYNES® 75 alloy
HAYNES® 75 alloy is a basic heat-resistant alloy used in low-stress gas turbine and industrial applications.
HAYNES® 188 alloy
HAYNES® 188 alloy is a cobalt-nickel-chromium-tungsten alloy that offers excellent high-temperature strength and superior oxidation resistance up to 2000°F (1095°C) and thermal stability. This alloy is used extensively in demanding military and civil aircraft gas turbine engine combustors, transition ducts, and after-burner components.
HAYNES® 214® alloy
HAYNES® 214® alloy is a nickel-chromium-aluminum-iron alloy designed to provide the optimum high-temperature oxidation resistance for a wrought material, while at the same time allowing for conventional forming and joining. This alloy offers outstanding oxidation resistance to 2300°F (1260°C) and is used in demanding, specialized gas turbine parts, such as honeycomb seals combustor splash plates and other static oxidation-limited parts.
HAYNES® 230® alloy
HAYNES® 230® alloy is a nickel-chromium-tungsten-molybdenum alloy that offers the best combination of high-temperature strength, resistance to oxidizing environments up to 2100°F (1149°C) for prolonged exposures, excellent long-term thermal stability, and fabricability of any major high-temperature alloy. It is used for combustion cans, transition ducts, flame holders, thermocouple sheaths, and other important gas turbine components.
HAYNES® 242® alloy
HAYNES® 242® alloy is an age-hardenable, nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy which derives its strength from a long-range ordering reaction upon aging. This alloy offers excellent strength to 1300°F (705°C), low thermal expansion characteristics, good oxidation resistance up to 1500°F (815°C), excellent low-cycle fatigue properties, very good thermal stability, and fabricability. It is used in gas turbine seal rings, containment, and high-strength fasteners.
HAYNES® 263 alloy
HAYNES® 263 alloy is a gamma-prime strengthened, age-hardenable alloy with good strength in the 1000-1400°F (540-760°C) temperature range and excellent forming and welding characteristics.
HAYNES® 282® alloy
HAYNES® 282® alloy is a new, wrought, gamma-prime strengthened superalloy developed for high-temperature structural applications, especially those in aero and industrial gas turbine engines. It possesses a unique combination of creep strength, thermal stability, weldability, and fabricability not found in currently available commercial alloys. This new alloy has excellent creep strength in the temperature range of 1200 to 1700°F (649 to 927°C), surpassing that of Waspaloy alloy and approaching that of R-41 alloy. The features of this alloy make it suitable for critical gas turbine applications, such as sheet fabrications, forged rings and cases, exhaust and nozzle structures, and other hot-gas-path components.
HAYNES® 617 alloy
HAYNES® 617 alloy is widely used in gas turbines for combustion cans, ducting and transitions.
HAYNES® HR-120® alloy
HAYNES® HR-120® alloy offers very good creep strength to 1800°F (980°C), together with good resistance to several industrial environments (e.g. excellent carburization and very good sulfidation and oxidation resistance). This economical alloy has found use in large frame engine shrouds, as well as use in heat treating fixture and industrial heating applications as an upgrade from 330 alloy, 800H alloy and stainless steels.
HASTELLOY® X alloy
HASTELLOY® X alloy is a nickel-chromium-iron-molybdenum alloy that has been in service in aerospace applications for nearly 50 years. The alloy offers very good balance of high-temperature strength, oxidation resistance, and fabricability. This alloy is widely used for aircraft and industrial gas turbine engine fabricated combustor and exhaust components, such as transition ducts, combustor cans, spray bars and flame holders, afterburners, and tailpipes.
