Haynes International’s facilities and operations are subject to various foreign, federal, state and local laws and regulations relating to the protection of human health, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act. We maintain multiple policies designed to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.

Safety is our number one priority at Haynes International. In order to integrate a culture of safety and emergency preparedness, we implemented management systems that conform to the OHSAS 18001 standard in 2007. We successfully transitioned to the ISO 45001 standard during fiscal year 2020.

Our Occupational Health and Safety performance includes injuries, occupational diseases, and work-related fatalities. Our corporate targets include year-over-year reductions in Lost Work Day Cases, Lost Work Days, Recordable Injuries, and First Aids, as well as, increased year-over-year reporting of Near Misses. Listed below are our corporate CY2022, CY2021, CY2020 rates:

Below are some improvement efforts we have implemented in order to reduce occurrences of injuries, occupational diseases, and work-related fatalities.

  • Each year, our employees receive emergency preparedness training, and we conduct severe weather and fires drills periodically.
  • Our employees attend refresher training annually. This training includes: Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Spaces, First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens, Fire Prevention and Emergency Action Plan, Hearing Conservation, Hand Safety, Personal Protective Equipment requirements, Working Around Mobile Equipment, and Walking and Working Surfaces.
  • All of our manufacturing sites have a volunteer Emergency Response Team (ERT). Our ERT members are state-certified trained in first aid and HAZMAT response.
  • Our supervisors receive OSHA-10 Hour and Incident Investigation training
  • We conduct routine departmental safety audits

Not only is safety the number one priority for employees, but we also extend our health and safety policies to suppliers, visitors, and contractors. When suppliers, visitors, and contractors come on site, they receive safety and environmental training. The training includes a review of relevant policies, required personal protection equipment, emergency procedures, and specific hazards that may be encountered. In 2022, throughout our facilities there were 221 Contractors, totaling 17,146 hours worked at our facilities. There were 0 Recordable Injuries, 1 First Aid Injury, and 3 Near Misses.
