Business Purpose: 
Perform and execute standard assigned tasks and testing duties, considering safety, quality, productivity, and cost with minimal direct supervision. This position will also perform advanced level testing duties, participate in redesign, construction and maintenance of current and future testing activities and equipment and provide support to moderately complex testing activities as assigned.

Role Qualifications:
(Required & Preferred) 

Education: 
High School Diploma (R), Associates or Bachelor’s degree (P).

Experience:
H.S. diploma with some advanced education and 5 years of pertinent industrial or laboratory experience (R), Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field and 2 years’ experience in laboratory or industrial controls (P).

Areas of Knowledge: 
Safety (R), Laboratory Workflow (R), Calibration & Specifications (R), High temperature testing (R), Heat treatment (R), Electronic controls (P), Chemistry (P) and Metallurgy (P).

Skills:

Global Accountabilities for the Role
  • Safety -  Follow all corporate, departmental, and area safety procedures, policies and guidelines, demonstrating safe work practices.  Lead by example using PPE and demonstrating good housekeeping practices.  Assist in maintaining an environmentally safe workplace, through initiative and adherence to environmental policies.  Lead, attend, and participate at all scheduled safety meetings.  Assist supervision in monitoring others adherence to all area safe practices, JSA’s, and Lock/Tag/Try procedures.
  • Quality -  Perform assigned tasks as called out in procedures or on work requests with minimal mistakes and with little or no supervision.  Improves existing processes and adapts and develops new procedures, correcting mistakes or procedural inconsistencies following developed guidelines.  Reporting corrective action taken to area supervisor, as needed.  Ensure that you, as well as others in the High Temp Lab, are following established procedures and guidelines for all tasks performed.  Ensure calibrated equipment is within calibration cycle.
  • Productivity -  Effectively and enthusiastically use time to maximize benefit to company, and seek every opportunity to assist others in efforts to keep the lab running efficiently.  Assist supervisor in the scheduling and coordination of tasks and people to effectively meet all departmental, area, and project commitments in the High Temperature Lab.
  • Cost -  Avoid excess waste of material and/or supplies by performing tasks right the first time.  Assist supervisor finding low cost, quality providers of supplies and services to ensure the continued operation of the High Temperature Lab.
Specific Accountabilities for the Role:
  1. Processes Used- Perform standardized testing and analysis functions in High Temperature Lab considering Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost. Perform standardized testing and analysis functions in the High Temperature Lab with limited direct supervision. Including, but not limited to, sample preparation, compiling and posting data, quality control testing, equipment verification, heat treatments and specialty testing. Perform standard QC Testing in the Corrosion Lab when assigned by supervision. Provide technical support using test equipment within the High Temperature Lab while following established procedures and guidelines. Continually increase personal skills, knowledge, and technology base by recommending and accepting additional training. Assist Supervisor/Lead Technician in maintaining and developing laboratory procedures, equipment and training to meet all internal/external project activities. Participate in departmental process/procedural improvement initiatives, as well as, assigned R&T project activities. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  2. Communication- Effectively and clearly communicates and contributes personal and professional knowledge to enhance skills of others. Receptive to direction and training necessary to meet the qualifications required for the assigned tasks. Accepts feedback in a positive manner and encourages two-way communications for ideas, improvements, and continual feedback. Serve as a role model by attending daily safety meetings and correcting safety concerns when they arise, participating in safety audit and motivating others to achieve results through example and encouragement. Assist supervision in developing equipment maintenance plans for the High Temperature Lab. 
  3. Cross-functional Relations- Recognize responsibilities based on organizational structure, and communicate with the appropriate individuals (persons responsible). Assist Supervisor and Lead Technicians in process/procedural improvement initiatives, maintaining laboratory procedures, equipment, equipment calibration, and training to meet internal/external quality requirement accreditation mandates (NADCAP, ISO, etc.) and industry standards (ASTM, ASM, etc.).
