Safety and Training Specialist - Kokomo

Department: Safety           Location: Kokomo, IN

Business Purpose:
To assist Safety and Manufacturing management in developing improved training documents to help employees learn and understand how to perform various jobs safely. Perform audits to capture proper safe behavior and document with accuracy. Assist in LO/TO and confined space procedure development as well as audits to verify compliance.

Role Qualifications: (Required) & (Preferred)

Education: 
BS Physical Sciences - Engineering, Safety, Chemical, Mechanical or Civil; Chemistry, Geology, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent (P).

Experience:
1-5 Years of EHS or training support in an industrial setting (P), EHS compliance (P), Experience in a union environment (P).

Areas of Knowledge:
Industrial Hygiene, HAZCOM, Lockout/Tag-out, PPE, Confined Space, and Ergonomics (P).

Skills: 
Communication skills, Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Problem solving (R).

  • Cost/Stewardship: Take appropriate action to remain within department budgets and seek cost reduction opportunities and efficiency gains.

Specific Accountabilities for the Role:
1. Safety, Health, and Environment:
Effectively communicate and work across disciplines to improve training documents; incident reporting procedures; Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) directives; Lockout/Tag-out; Confined space entry procedures; the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); and Environmental policies. Ensure conformance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements.
2. Labor Relations:
Effectively communicate and ensure compliance with plant rules of conduct.
3. Business Analysis:
Effectively communicate and ensure compliance with corporate policies. Establish and follow cost-control procedures to remain within the directed budget.
4. Manufacturing:
Effectively communicate and ensure compliance with the concepts of recognizing and serving internal and external customers. Understand the flow of material through manufacturing.
5. Management:
Work with personnel and equipment to maximize safe productivity. Foster cross-functional interactions between personnel and departments that will enhance operations.
6. Communication and Training:
Promptly communicate training, personnel and regulatory issues to management. Develop and implement effective JSA/SOP training programs.
