Quality Assurance Engineer

Department: Quality Assurance    Location: Kokomo, IN

Business Purpose:
To safely and effectively plan, lead, organize, and control assigned areas of responsibility. Follow the established corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines to deliver consistent results to external and internal customers. Identify and solve product quality and quality system problems. Work with all areas of the company as needed in our shared goal of improving safety, quality, cost, and productivity to insure that our products meet or exceed both internal and external customer requirements. Provide daily support to our Quality Assurance effort related to the quality system, customer release of material, quality issues, and interact in a professional manner with customers and other personnel. This role will also provide backup support to quality related to Material Release and Certification as well as being involved with other related projects as directed by Quality Assurance Management. 

Role Qualifications: (Required) & (Preferred)

Education:
AS/BS in Quality, Engineering or Business (R) Materials Science, Quality, or Metallurgy (P).

Experience: 
0-3 years in Quality Control, Manufacturing Engineering, Wrought Alloy Processing and/or technical function (P).

Areas of Knowledge:
Quality Control, Quality Auditing, manufacturing processes and equipment, statistical process control, ISO and AS specification requirements, Metallurgy/Metals Manufacturing, Aerospace quality systems/standards i.e. GE, Nadcap, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, FAI, FMEA Manufacturing processes, Quality Control, clerical, and/or Testing and Release, Metallurgical or Chemical laboratory experience, Specification Interpretation (P).

Skills:
Basic math, strong organizational skills, communication skills, general computer (MS Excel, Access, Word) (R).

Global Accountabilities for the Role:
  • Safety & Environmental: Support the corporate safety and environmental priority through proactive focus on use of proper PPE and efforts to improve the safety in Haynes’ manufacturing processes. 
  • Quality: Ensure the quality of the product to the customer by investigation and resolution of product quality, product testing, quality system, conformance to standards, and specification problems.
  • Productivity: Have an attitude of timeliness for requested work from manager, colleagues, and key cross functional relations.
  • Cost/Stewardship: Demonstrate stewardship in exercising judgment in the use of company resources with regards to the quality group and its resources.
Specific Accountabilities for the Role:
  1. General: Understand the Haynes Quality System requirements, AS requirements, Nadcap requirements, and basic ISO. Understand the basic product and process flows to enable daily support of our quality objectives.
  2. RMA: (a) Work with inspection on the customer return samples for investigation of root cause of the defect, (b) Ensure the RMAs are reviewed for a complete inspection and observe the inspections as needed, (c) Maintain the RMA database and files to ensure information is up to date and accurate, (d) Ensure RMAs are processed and the material is reviewed and dispositioned, (e) Ensure Creatio databases for RMAs are maintained and up to date.
  3. Non-Conformances: (a) Ensure NCRs are properly filled out and have appropriately addressed the root cause and corrective action prior to submission to CAB, (b) Ensure the NCR database is accurately maintained and is up to date, (c) Ensure the NCRs have adequate resolution and provide follow-up as needed, (d) Ensure Creatio databases for NCRs is maintained.
  4. Quality Assurance Support: (a) Perform internal audits as directed (b) Assist as directed on external and customer audits (c) Utilize internal procedures and systems to monitor processes for off quality trends and initiate corrective actions, (d) Review Quality Clause(s) as requested by Sales, (e) Provide support to maintain Approved Vendor List (AVL), (f) Function to release material from the testing ques (g) Monitor and measure quality data for quality system requirements and for internally request data (h) Provide support for certifications in the release and certification of material (i) Effectively monitor, document, and report status, activity, and progress in area of responsibility (j) Support QTC in the certification review process, edit of certifications, and testing data.
  5. Quality Engineering Support: (a) Provide the Quality Engineering department with support as necessary to meet Quality System requirements involved with new alloy scale-up, special quality, customer samples, customer special requests, nonstandard processing, and customer audits/plant tours, as needed, (b) Initiate Product Reviews on nonconforming material. (c) Provide data analysis on heat treat data for property surveys, as needed.
  6. Backup Support: (a) Provide back up support to Release and certify material for shipment, (b) Serve as backup to the AVL coordinator and process, (c) Backup for daily scrap and rework report, (d) as a backup for the data heat treat reviews for daily annealing.
  7. Communication: (a) Able to effectively communicate with colleagues, (e.g. in person, phone, should be the main choice of communication, email is the secondary way of communication), (b) Effectively monitor, document, and report status, activity, and progress in area of responsibility, (c) Provide required input into the monthly report in a timely manner.
  8. Project Management: Participate on assigned Quality Assurance & Quality Engineering projects to insure yearly commitments are met.
