	HASTELLOY^® C-22^® alloy was selected for this large bleach washer (replacing titanium and stainless steels) because of its excellent resistance to wet chlorine and chlorine dioxide solutions and its ease of fabrication and weld repair.
This vortex finder of HAYNES^® 556^TM alloy is used in handling a sulfidizing atmosphere at 1600 to 1700°F (871 to 927°C) and was in excellent condition after one year.
	Conditions were severe enough in C-stage bleaching operations at one mill to affect welds of C-276 alloy. As a preventive maintenance measure, 3 mm was ground off each weld and replaced with a weld deposit of HASTELLOY^® C-22^® alloy. It is still in service after 9 years.
